Unpublished, but Wonderful: Lethal Inheritance by Tahlia Newland

Lethal Inheritance by Tahlia Newland

About the Novel:
Lethal Inheritance is a YA fantasy novel. A combination quest, love story and surrealistic journey into the mind, it has the sexy characters, flashes of humour, terrifying battles and mix of fantasy and reality that made the ‘Twilight’ series so popular with a wide readership.

The Blurb

If last night was real then Ariel should be dead, but her mother has disappeared, there are bruise marks on her neck and that hideous beast in the photo looks frighteningly familiar.

When demons kidnap her mother, Ariel is catapulted into a mysterious realm in a hidden layer of reality. Stuck on a rescue mission she doesn’t want, she must negotiate an intriguing and unpredictable world where demons who feed on fear are hunting her, and they’re aiming to kill.

She needs help fast, but can she trust the quirky old guide who says he can teach her how to fine tune her mind into a powerful weapon? And what should she do about Nick, whose power is more than he or she can handle?

My Opinion: I only read the first chapter, but by the end I was already into it and saddened that I didn't have more! This book have great potential to become something big! Tahlia seems to have a way with words and I hope that someone will see the greatness and give her book a loving home!

IMM is hosted by The Story Siren. This week my IMM will feature books from last week as well as this week. I didnt have time to post this last week, but the 8th was my birthday! I turned 14! My mom took me to Booksamillion and I had a book shopping spree and bought all the books! And then, I came home Thursday to a package from Simon Audio! It said I had won a Clockwork Angel audiobook contest! I was so surprised! This is the best IMM in the short history of my blog! Let's hope the books last!

Waiting On Wednesday-Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

This heavenly Wednesday, I want......

CRESCENDO!!!!!

The sequel to the New York Times Best selling phenomenon, Hush, Hush!
Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away, and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch, or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?

I just reread Hush, Hush and I miss Patch and Nora! I love this cover, fits right in with the first one! I want it so much that I find I am babbling with joy!

Teaser Tuesday-The Bewitching Season by Marissa Doyle

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The Bewitching Season by Marissa Doyle

''Persy thought about denying it, but one look at his suddenly serious face stopped her. This search meant as much to him as it did to her. With a pang, she realized that her running away would affect him too. She couldn't give him the brush-off now.''

This is the first Historical Fiction that I read. I love it and can never find it in a bookstore. I just take it out of my library every other week. I can't read the second on until I buy the first one! It's a catch 22.

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) By Richelle Mead

Format: Hardcover
Pages: 489
Publisher: Penguin's Young Readers Group

From the inside cover:
Salvation has its price.
The words stunned Adrian for a moment, but he kept going. "You're lying. What you're describing is impossible. There's no way to save a Strigoi. When they're gone, they're gone. They're dead. Undead. Forever."
Robert's next words weren't directed at Adrian. They were spoken to me. "That which is dead doesn't always stay dead...."

After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s—and to her best friend, Lissa Dragomir. It's graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives outside of the Academy’s cold iron gates to finally begin. But even with the intrigue and excitement of court life looming, Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri. He's out there, somewhere.

She failed to kill him when she had the chance, and now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and she knows in her heart that he is hunting her. And if Rose won't join him, he won't rest until he's silenced her...forever.

But Rose can't forget what she learned on her journey—whispers of a magic too impossible and terrifying to comprehend. A magic inextricably tied to Lissa that could hold the answer to all of Rose's prayers, but not without devastating consequences. Now Rose will have to decide what—and who—matters most to her. In the end, is true love really worth the price?

Fall in love with Rose and Dimitri all over again in Spirit Bound, the eagerly awaited fifth novel in Richelle Mead's enthralling Vampire Academy series.

Why I Read This: I read this because after the first 5 books in the series were glamorous, I didn't think Richelle would drag us along this far just to beat us and leave us. And I was correct in my assumptions.

Plot: Since Vampire Academy is already 5 books in, the plot is well established. Rose Hathaway, guardian extraordinaire, tries to be her best friend's guardian while fighting insanity. She does all of this while trying to love her beautiful Russian instructor, turned Strigoi. Knowing Rose Hathaway, the plot won't stay the same and the only thing we can wonder is what kind of trouble will she get into next? Rose is in the royal court with Lissa. She is dating Adrian and yet she can't get the possibility of saving Dimitri off her mind. She embarks on a trip to break out, dare I say it..... Victor Dashkov. Running into Dimitri, Rose is almost on her last limb until Lissa comes to the unexpected rescue.... And that's it, anything else, you will have to read the book!

Characters: Rose is, of course, my favorite character. She is the same person every time. She's powerful, confident, and reckless, and I love her for it. She never changes and will do anything for the people she loves. She won't mince her words with you and she doesn't always think before she acts, but you can never accuse her of being anybody but herself.
Dimitri, hmm, I don't think I can tell you anything about him without spoiling it. He is still the same beautiful, gorgeous Russian we all know and love. All I can say is, the missing him? Stop it. He's back.

Reliability: I think all of us girls, or maybe just me, finds Rose to be an inspiration. I wish I had her confidence. I think the reason we love Rose, even though she's the one we love to hate, is because we know that there is more to her. She has flaws and problems and she's in love with an older man, but she goes on and she never takes no for an answer.

"Your hands are so soft." His voice sounded far away. I was losing him again.
"North, if it hurts you, if it's going to kill you-- why do you still practice magic?"
"Because," he said, his eyes drifting shut again," who am I without it?"

I loved this book and the hands comment was oddly sweet to me. It was a weird subject that got turned into something interestingly wonderful. Go read it, there are plenty more of North's compliments where that came from!

P.S. My computer will be in TOMORROW! Can you say excited! I missed him so much and when he arrives, a review is coming your way maybe one about vampires? ;)

Manic Monday

Imagine you can only keep 5 things that you have (people not included). What 5 things would you keep?
* If I could only keep 5 things that I already have it would probably have to be my bookshelf, my cat, my bed, my laptop, and my iPod touch.

What's the hardest thing you've ever had to learn?
* The hardest thing that I've ever had to learn has last week in science class, we learned how to balance chemical equations. I thought that I'd never get it, but with extra studying, it was a thing of the past.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life and I'm going to...
* Enjoy life for myself. I am young and a Libra. I once read that Libra's are pleasers and this Libra is. I am always worrying about someone else's feeling and thoughts before I make a lasting decision. I can honestly have panic attacks thinking about what someone else will say or think. It has been a big blockade in my life and today is the first day where my living will be my own and not affect by anyone else's.

Waiting on Wednesday

This week I want....

Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

His life depends on it.

It just calls to you doesn't it? I read about it when someone placed a link on Twitter. I went on to read the preview and now I am dying inside for it! My birthday is coming up soon and all I really want are books.... So can you guess what will be my first choice?

PS: Those lucky people who have already read it. Spare the rest of us some goodies. Tell me what you thought about it in a comment!

Top 5 Most Wanted Books of 2011!

This post is me participating in Princess Bookie's 1st Mini Challenge during contest craze! She wants to know my top 5 most wanted books of 2011 and why I want them. This is a hard thing to know since I don't really know any books from 2011 yet, and because there are so many upcoming books that are indescribable. Anyway, here is my list, I hope it does me justice!

5.
Entangled By Cat Clarke
Why I Want It: The cover itself is what drew me in. Red is my favorite color and I just love her hair! I read the summary and it sounds so interesting. The plot promises to be very mysterious, just like I like it!

4. Wake Unto Me By Lisa Cach
Why I Want It: The cover was another beauty and it is supposed to be about a girl going to boarding school and falling in love with a dead guy. And everyone knows how much I love dead guys!

3.
Secrets and Shadows By Shannon Delany
Why I Want It: This book is the second in a series and the first one was a dream! I wrote a review about it and think even then I didn't do it justice.

2.
My Soul To Steal By Rachel Vincent
Why I Want It: This book is also in series and it is the 4th book. Instead, of like some series, it didn't get boring, only more exciting! Spoiler alert: I am also curious to see what becomes of Kaylee and Nash!

1. Unearthly By Cynthia Hand
Why I Want It: It features the new YA craze, angels. When I hear that word, I can only think about Patch and I can only hope that the boy in the book is as sexy as he sounds in the summary.

Well, everybody that's my list. If you will please ignore the varied placement of the numbers. I am posting this from an app on my iPod touch and have no idea how to correct it. Wolves, Boys, and Other Things That Might Kill Me By Kristen Chandler

Summary From Goodreads:When KJ Carson is assigned to write a column for her school newspaper about the wolves in nearby Yellowstone National Park, she’s more interested in impressing Virgil Whitman, the new kid in school and the photographer assigned as her partner, than in investigative journalism. But before long, KJ has a face-to-face encounter with a wolf that changes her and the way she thinks about wolves. With her new found passion for protecting these controversial animals, KJ inadvertently ignites the fuse of the anti-wolf sentiment in the community. First Virgil is injured during a town parade, and then her father’s store is set on fire in retribution. To stop the escalating violence, KJ follows Virgil to the cattle ranch of the most outspoken anti-wolf activists in town, against her father’s will. What she discovers there threatens everything and everyone she cares about.
In KJ’s fierce and funny attempt to make peace between the wolves and the people that despise them, she must first face her own long-held fears. It’s terrifying, but then, finding yourself always is.
Hardcover, 371 pages
Published May 13th 2010 by Viking Juvenile

Plot: KJ, or Katherine Jean, a girl with dislexyia and a tour-guide father. She goes with him on wolf tours with him all the time and she loves them. The problem is that her town doesn't. With a town filled with ranchers and cattle, the wolves cause a big problem. Joined together with a cute wolf-loving boy, she tries to keep peace with her town and save the wolves' lives.

Characters: KJ, was a very inspiring girl. She had a learning disability, but she didn't let that stop her. She still found a way to overcome things. I didn't like the way she tried to defend her town for their actions in the beginning and then I started to understand. Virgil was a difficult person to figure out and I thought that he was a werewolf, but I liked him. He was the ideal shy guy who wasn't afraid to be himself. My least favorite character was KJ's dad, Sam. He pushed her to hard and was unessecarrily harsh to her. Sometimes, I thught that he was one of KJ's antagonists. He loved her in his own way, but his behavior towards her was awful.

Relatibility: I can relate to bring stuck in a small town, caught between what you know and what you know is right. The choice can be one of the hardest things to do even for the simplest thing. I wish I was as persistant as KJ, Virgil, and her friends.

Cover Comments: The cover is very simple, with great big burst of color. It is similar to the story within, casual and laid back, but expect some bursts that you'd never expect.

Reincarnation By Suzanne Weyn

Reincarnation
Author: Suzanne Weyn
Publication Date: 2008
Genre: YA Romance
Format: Paperback

Copied from Goodreads:
From prehistory to the present, theirs was a love for the ages. It starts with a fight in a cave over an elusive green jewel . . . and then travels over time and lives to include Egyptian slaves, Greek temples, Massachusetts witch trials, Civil War battlefields, Paris on the eve of World War II, America in the 1960s . . . and a pair of modern-day teenagers. For readers who believe that love is stronger than time or death, this is an unforgettable novel from a wonderful storyteller.

Why I read this: I had heard about this book a lot and it had some pretty big hype. I wanted to know if all of it was well deserved.

Plot: This story's plot isn't just one, but a lot of them, all surrounding two soul mates. These two lost loves find each other in almost every one of their lives only for tragedy to fall and one of them be lost. All of their encounters center around an emerald jewel. If they can overcome the temptation of the jewel, they can be together. All or the stories were very well detailed and filled with action and time between the two lovers. The only part I didn't like was that at the most important part, the end where they are finally able to be together, I feel that she ended it too soon.

Characters: As I said above, they were the same soul and just different names. This was very refreshing to have so many characters and still be able to identify them by their traits.

Reliability: I personally can't relate to this book yet because I have never had a boyfriend, but most people can relate to losing the love of your life and then finding another or the same one.

Cover Thoughts: I loved it. I like the angelic glow the people have about them. It really goes along well with the soul mate concept.

Infinite Days By Rebecca Maizel

Copied from Goodreads:
Lenah Beaudonte is, in many ways, your average teen: the new girl at Wickham Boarding School, she struggles to fit in enough to survive and stand out enough to catch the eye of the golden-boy lacrosse captain. But Lenah also just happens to be a recovering five-hundred-year-old vampire queen. After centuries of terrorizing Europe, Lenah is able to realize the dream all vampires have -- to be human again. After performing a dangerous ritual to restore her humanity, Lenah entered a century-long hibernation, leaving behind the wicked coven she ruled over and the eternal love who has helped grant her deep-seated wish.

Until, that is, Lenah draws her first natural breath in centuries at Wickham and rediscovers a human life that bears little resemblance to the one she had known. As if suddenly becoming a teenager weren’t stressful enough, each passing hour brings Lenah closer to the moment when her abandoned coven will open the crypt where she should be sleeping and find her gone. As her borrowed days slip by, Lenah resolves to live her newfound life as fully as she can. But, to do so, she must answer ominous questions: Can an ex-vampire survive in an alien time and place? What can Lenah do to protect her new friends from the bloodthirsty menace about to descend upon them? And how is she ever going to pass her biology midterm?

Review:
I can only describe this book as a vicious whirlwind. It was all over the place and I was constantly at the edge of my seat. Lenah never did as I expected. I thought that she going to be a loner and hang by herself, but she made a friend the first day.
Tony, the aforementioned friend was so sweet and an artist. I thought and really hoped that she would pick him, instead of Justin, but Lenah was unpredictable and I adored her. I loved that even though she was a human, she still kept a few of her vampire tendencies. I loved Tony, too. I liked that he was the first to approach her and was her friend until the end. I didn't like Justin because of how he treated her in the beginning, but he grew on me. As much without spoilers as I can, I will tell you that the ending is surprising and will leave your mouth hanging open. BlogBooster-The most productive way for mobile blogging. Coffeehouse Angel By Suzanne Selfors

From Goodreads:
From the author of Saving Juliet comes a romantic comedy that is good to the last drop. When Katrina spots a homeless guy sleeping in the alley behind her grandmother’s coffee shop, she decides to leave him a cup of coffee, a bag of chocolate-covered coffee beans, and some pastries to tide him over. Little does she know that this random act of kindness is about to turn her life upside down. Because this adorable vagrant, Malcolm, is really a guardian angel on a break between missions. And he won’t leave until he can reward Katrina’s selflessness by fulfilling her deepest desire. Now if only she could decide what that might be . . .
My Opinion:
Coffeehouse Angel was, to me, was like one of Aesop's fables. There were a lot of lessons in the plot and were important to the development of Katrina. Her grandmother's coffee shop is going down the toilet and instead of quitting like she usually does, she enlists the help of her friends to help her.
Katrina is a female idol. She has a habit of quitting things and she finds a way to overcome it.
My favorite character though was not Katrina, it was Malcolm. I've always liked angels and Malcolm was one of a kind. He was a messenger angel and decides to reward Katrina after she gives him treats from the shop. I liked his contrast of naivety and wiseness. I was totally hopeless at the end and thought they were gonna give up, but they persevered and won! Even though they forgave their enemies, they still got their kick in the face.

Bad News

As you can tell by the title, I have some bad news. Yesterday morning, my cat jumped on me and made me spill milk all over my keyboard and now the letters, R, S, D, F, and C do not work. So I have to send it off to be fixed because there is no Toshiba repair place in my whole state! I cried when I the customer service lady told me. I hate that my baby has to go away but I want her to be healthy. Supposedly we should be receiving a box in 3-5 business days and then it will be shipped. I will be saving up reviews and maybe I will splurge and buy a real blogging app for my iPod touch. I am off to mourn the lost of my baby and pray for the shipping box to come in 3 days instead of 5. See ya!

Friday Question (9/10/10)

I want you loving like an Aquarius
Sensitive like a Pisces
Energetic like an Aries
Dependable like a Taurus
Curious like a Gemini
Patient like a Cancer
Playful like a Leo
Hardworking like a Virgo
Cooperative like a Libra
Intense like a Scorpio
Caring like a Sagittarius
And persistent like a Capricorn

What is your astrological zodiac sign? Do you think your personal characteristics match that of your astrological zodiac sign?

My zodiac sign is Libra. The sign for Libra is a scale to represent balance. I think my characteristics do match my zodiac sign. I am not overly anal, but I do like having things in balance. In my room or with anything that I own or do, there is plan of operation already thought out. There are also certain ways that things have to be done or places that things have to go. I like to have stability, especially with time. If my alarm clock doesn't go off, even if I do wake up in time to catch the bus, my heart will race and I will go borderline panic attack. Also, another example, you know how this the Friday Question? Well, today is Tuesday. I am writing this days in advance and have all my other posts planned and written out already. Shameful, isn't it?

Enough laughing at me, what about you? Do you fit the traits of your sign?

13 to Life (13 to Life, #1) By Shannon Delany

Summary from Goodreads:
Something strange is stalking the small town of Junction…

When junior Jess Gillmansen gets called out of class by Guidance, she can only presume it’s for one of two reasons. Either they’ve finally figured out who wrote the scathing anti-jock editorial in the school newspaper or they’re hosting yet another intervention for her about her mom. Although far from expecting it, she’s relieved to discover Guidance just wants her to show a new student around—but he comes with issues of his own including a police escort.

The newest member of Junction High, Pietr Rusakova has secrets to hide--secrets that will bring big trouble to the small town of Junction—secrets including dramatic changes he’s undergoing that will surely end his life early.

My Review:
This story tells about Jessie Gillmansen and her life with her horses and dogs in Junction. After a weird occurrence one night, a family of dark-haired Russians show up in Junction and Jess has to guide the hottest one around her school. I love Jess, she had this independent girl aura about her, which I can absolutely appreciate. She had some flaws about her as all people do which made her seem all the more perfect. She had habit of being too selfless that sometimes held off her romance with Pieta.
Now that we mentioned Pieta, let's talk about how much I loved him. I loved him from the first time Jess spoke his name. He's Russian and I guess that his name is the Russian spelling for Peter. He won cool points just for his unique name. He is mysterious like all dark, dreamy werewolves and hardly speaks to Jess at the beginning, but when he does, he ends up offending her. He is very forward to Jess about his feelings, which is refreshing from other books.
Blogger Templates     The plot in this story is filled with a lot of mysteries, twists and turns. It has a lot of back story about Jess's mom and Pieta's mom, too. It left a lot of unanswered questions, which excites me because that means the next books will be the bomb! Jess can be added to the Best Kick-Butt Female list and Shannon can be taken off the Debut Author's list and added to the Bestsellers one. I think Shannon turned a new page in the YA werewolf world, Pieta  may be nothing like Jacob or Sam, but sets his own path in this book and hopefully in the future ones.
