Review: Awake At Dawn (Shadow Falls, #2) by C. C. Hunter

Kylie and I met again in Awake At Dawn and boy, was it a wild ride! When first began reading the book, it gave a me a sense of familiarity. Like I had been at camp with Kylie and came back the next year, only for us to pick up our friendship where we left off. Kylie grows in many ways in this book. Her powers start to manifest deeply and her character shines more as she gets closer and closer to finding herself. I think this book was more about everybody. Kylie's relationships with her friends and family were shown more and displayed Kylie's vulneribilty. She delves more into her relationship with her mom and dad and come closer to excepting their actions against her and each other. I loved her interactions with Holiday, Miranda, and Della. Miranda, Della, and she reminded me of my two dysfunctional friends. Holiday became like a big sister to Kylie and made me regretful that I don't have a big sister.
With all this loving, the love triangle had to spice up some. As Lucas is gone, the first 2/3 of the book is Kylie/Derek. They learn so much about each other and grow closer and closer. I love seeing them together and that made it even harder to keep my Team Lucus status. Even though they continuely learn more and more about each other, Kylie just can't shake the burden her ex, Trey, left her with. She blows up on Derek because she sispects that all he wants is sex. Kylie is conflicted between the boys and doesn't want to break Derek's heart, but it seems to be her only choice when Lucus returns to camp. As if that isn't enough, Kylie has another ghost stalking her and she's displaying symptoms of being a vampire..... and a werewolf and a shapeshifter.
With all these problems and complications, what's a girl to do? Be strong and deal with it the best she can. Kylie does this and more. She doesn't let stuff get her down, but isn't ashamed to cry. I felt so burdened alongside her, but I can't wait for the third book to confirm what I already know, that Kylie will succeed no matter what.

Review: Keturah And Lord Death by Martine Leavitt

At my newly discovered high school library, I found this book. I have been looking for this book every where! It has me in it! Really, me, Keturah, am the star! Honestly that might not sound like much, but My name is awfully hard to find. I used to run over to the racks in store that had key chains with names on them...only to be sorely disappointed when I never found Keturah. Then I Googled my name and this book was the first entry. Finding it in the place I least expected it was a Godsend.
It is based in the past and Keturah get lost in a forest and meets Death. She makes a lot of deals with him to spare herself from death and her town from plague. She tries every man in her town with an eyeball (read the book) to see if they are her true love. The story was fun and sad and sooo suspenseful. Keturah was a nice girl, exceptionally beautiful, but who wasn't dealt the best hand. She has many admirers in the town to look at, but none of them seem to be a match. It was suspenseful because they would not tell me who her love was. Every time I thought I had it, It slipped through my hands. When her true love was revealed, I was pleasantly surprised and happy. I read Keturah and Lord Death fairly quickly and enjoyed every bit of it. Please go read it!
