Follow Friday (2)

It's Follow Friday!

This is my Follow Friday post, a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee!

This week's question:
What is/was your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject is math. I love that is so definite and that there is not a best answer and only an exact one. Ironically it isn't my best subject and I really don't know why I like it, just that I do. :/

It is also time for the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by Crazy-For-Books!

Today's Book Blogger Question:
"What book are you most looking forward to seeing published in 2011? Why are you anticipating that book?"
The book that I am most looking forward to is Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting. I just reread The Body Finder today and it still makes my heart race and my toes curl. I am so happy that it comes out next month!

What about you?

Demon Princess: Reign or Shine by Michelle Rowan

Format: Paperback
Pages: 284
Publisher: Walker Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: September 29th 2009
Series: Demon Princess #1
ISBN: 0802784925
ISBN13: 9780802784926

Synopsis from
As if trying to fit in at a new school isn't stressful enough, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands—the world that separates and protects us from the Underworld. When she is brought there by the mysterious—and surprisingly cute—messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her growing feelings for Michael are completely forbidden. Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew—what's a teenage demon princess to do?

Why I Read This: It was about a subject that I'd never read about, demons. I just didn't think they were creatures that you could turn around and have a happy ending with them. I was looking to be briefly delighted and surprised. And I was.

Plot: Nikki Donovan is a girl who just recently moved to Canada with her mother who is forever marrying. One day at school, a dark-hair guy shows up, right after super hottie, Chris Sanders asks her to Winter Formal. While destroying her buzz with his bad news and cute face, he tells her that she is a demon princess. I know, laughable, right. After much resistance, Nikki goes with him, meets her nicer-then-she-thought daddy and her seemly nice aunt. Her daddy has a fatal sickness and there's a catch.....He wants her to take the throne, but she doesn't have to do it if she drinks the potion. And her aunt's only pushing her to drink the potion because she cares, right? Yeah, no.

Characters: Nikki is very down to earth and quite girl next door. She is kind of naive at the beginning of the story, but she grows wiser as it goes on. I liked the darkling transformation, even though she said she was ugly. Micheal, her beau, is a shadow and in my opinion, is way better than Chris any day, which she soon discovers. This story was an awesome short story and beginning of a series, but I disliked the ending. Then again, does anyone ever like cliffhangers?

Reliability: Nikki was not popular where she lived before and that stops her from getting a big head when she hangs with her BFF, Melinda. Also, Micheal, himself, thought that his position below Nikki would change the way she thought about him. I like it when books with supernatural subjects find a way to include just a little bit of realistic plot and character growth.

Next in the Series......

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Nikki Donovan was a demon princess. Now she’s a demon princess in love.

Fresh from finding out she is a demon princess and meeting her father for the first time, Nikki Donovan is looking forward to getting back to her regular high school life. But then Rhys, the handsome teenage king of the faery realm, enrolls at her school as a “foreign exchange student.” Her conflicted feelings for Rhys and her boyfriend are getting in the way of her new relationship with the Shadow-creature Michael. But this love triangle from hell isn’t even Nikki’s biggest problem: There’s a new prophecy that claims she will destroy all the demon and human worlds. Her best friend Melinda just might be a demon-slayer-in-training. Throw in a field trip to none other than the Underworld itself . . . and Nikki’s going to be hoping for a rain check on more than just her homework!

Waiting on Wednesday #3: The Vampire Stalker

The Vampire Stalker by Allison Van Diepen

Format: Hardcover
Pages: 272 pages
Expected Publication: June 1st 2011
Publisher: Point
ISBN: 0545283752
ISBN13: 9780545283755
Summary from Goodreads:
What if the characters in a vampire novel left their world--and came into yours?

Amy is in love with someone who doesn't exist: Alexander Banks, the dashing hero in a popular series of vampire novels. Then one night, Amy meets a boy who bears an eerie resemblance to Alexander. In fact, he IS Alexander, who has escaped from the pages of the book and is in hot pursuit of a wicked vampire named Vigo. Together, Amy and Alexander set out to track Vigo and learn how and why Alexander crossed over. But when she and Alexander begin to fall for each other, Amy wonders if she even wants him to ever return to the realm of fiction.

Why I'm waiting: It was the synopsis that drew me to place this book unto my immense to-read list. It seemed interesting and only God knows how many times I've wanted some of the characters in my books to appear in real life. I want to read this book and live vicariously through Amy to discover if reality really can be better than your dreams.

What are you waiting on? Leave a comment to tell me or leave the link to your WoW post. Thanks for reading!

Enquiring Minds Want to Know #1

Happy Monday everybody! I found this new awesome meme that let's bloggers get to know each other better. Enquiring Minds Want to Know by Dolly's Thoughts.

Each Monday she posts 3 questions for us to answer that we can copy and post on our blog with our answers.
You don’t have to be a blogger to participate either. If you are not a blogger just answer the questions in the comment section following the post. This way we not only get to know other bloggers, we get to know our followers too. I am really excited about this meme and hope many more people will join the fun!!!!!

Are you interested?

1. What is the outside temperature where you are today?
*Right now, it is 51 degrees Fahrenheit and raining a little less than violently.

2. Do participate in any special winter sports or hobbies like skiing or snowmobiling, etc?
*We don't have any winter sports. I live in the south and snow is a novelty. So far we've gotten it 2 years in a row, only enough to last the night and then melt the next morning.

3. If you had to choose between a week long stay in a mountain lodge with lots of snow, activities, friends, food and beverages or a week alone on a deserted white sand island with just a bag of books and food and water which would you choose?
*I would most definitely pick the bag of books. I am not the most outgoing person and large crowds freak me out. The deserted island would be right up my alley, since I can sit in a completely silent place and just do nothing and be quiet for hours. I would perhaps miss the beverages, water is not my drink of choice, but it would be better for my health.

In My Mailbox (1/23/11)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren.

I went to Booksamillion and Barnes and Nobles today and got lots of goodies! I now have 32 books on my to-read shelf! I have to admit that it is getting ridiculous, but I give all my admiration to the people that have enough will power to put themselves on book bans because I don't. I'm so ashamed...... Well, I'm over it. :-) Look what I bought!

*Other by Karen Kincy
*The Betraying Season by Marissa Doyle
*Return to Paradise by Simone Elkeles

*The Cupcake Queen by Heather Hepler
*That Girl Lucy Moon by Amy Timberlake
*Guyaholic by Carolyn Mackler

*Jane by April Lindner
*Thou Shalt Not Dump the Skater Dude and Other Commandments I Have Broken by Rosemary Graham

Most of these were already on my to- read list, but I have been looking for Return to Paradise and Betraying Season FORever! I am glad to have finally found it at Barnes and Nobles though. Today was my first time going to my neighborhood Barnes and Nobles and I enjoyed myself, but Booksamillion will always be my home. It is more quiet and less crowded, just the introvert in me, I guess. I've heard good things about Jane and The Cupcake Queen. I am still looking forward to all of them. Although I will have to speed up my reading. Gotta make room for more books! Thanks for reading!

Follow My Blog Friday and Book Blogger Hop

It's Follow Friday!

This is my Follow Friday post, a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee!

This week's question:
Who do you cheer for?
I don't really cheer for any professional teams because I don't watch sports at all. I cheer for my school teams on the rare nights I go to a game, but it is mostly out of obligation.

It is also time for the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by Crazy-For-Books!

Today's Book Blogger Question:
"Why do you read the genre that you do? What draws you to it?"
Right now, all I read I is YA and that is because I am a young adult. I don't mind that being all I read because I find the genre so fascinating and there are so many underlying categories in YA that I could never get bored.

What about you?

Waiting on Wednesday #2: What We Keep Is Not Always What Will Stay by Amanda Cockrell

Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted by Jill from Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Fifteen-year-old Angie never used to think much about God—until things started getting weird. Like the statue of St. Felix, her secret confidante, suddenly coming off his pedestal and talking to her. And Angie's mother, who's busting up her third marriage for no apparent reason. Then there's Jesse Francis, sent home from Afghanistan at age nineteen with his leg blown off. Now he's expected to finish high school and fit right back in. Is God even paying attention to any of this?

Against the advice of an increasingly vocal St. Felix (who knows a thing or two about war), Angie falls for Jesse—who's a lot deeper than most high school guys. But Jesse is battling some major demons. As his rages start to become more frequent and unpredictable, Angie finds herself losing control of the situation. And she's starting to wonder: can one person ever make things right for someone else?

Why I'm Waiting:
It seems like it will be full of deception and also romance. I look forward to seeing how this author combines these two and I think that the skeleton with the bow on is adorable in a strange way. ;)

I was pleasantly surprised when I read my email today to see that Sarah Dessen had posted the first chapter of WHAT HAPPENED TO GOODBYE!

Angel Star (Angel Star, #1) by Jennifer Murgia

Format: Paperback
Pages: 251

Why I read this: I needed something about angels to read after rereading Hush,Hush.

Plot: Teagan Mcneel is a girl that minds her own business and, for now her biggest enemy is preppy Brynn Hanson. One day, she looks up into the eyes of blue-eyed, sandy-haired Garreth Adams and her world turns topsy-turvy. Garreth openly reveals his angel self to her and tells her that she is in grave danger. The fate of the world is in her hands. After that Brynn Hanson is a thing of the past, or is she?

Characters: Teagan was my kind of girl. She kept to herself during her life and spent her days praying for a supernatural boy to love. I think Teagan was a goddess in disguise. She at first came off as weak and scared, but it turned out to be a charade. In the end, she fights for her love and does what she needs to do.
Garreth was a sweet a boyfriend as an angel could ever be. He has been with Teagan all her life and understands her perfectly. What more could you ask for in a boy?

Relatibility: I can relate to Teagan and her feeling of never fitting in. Everyone has that feeling at one point or another.

Cover Comments: The cover is a picture of Garreth's mark inside his hand. I like the illustration, but thought it could have been differently colored. Black will always be depressing to me.

Waiting on Wednesday (1)

City of Fallen Angels is the fourth book in the bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

Summary from Goodreads:
“City of Fallen Angels takes place two months after the events of City of Glass. In it, a mysterious someone’s killing the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle and displaying their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to provoke hostility between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, leaving tensions running high in the city and disrupting Clary’s plan to lead as normal a life as she can — training to be a Shadowhunter, and pursuing her relationship with Jace. As Jace and Clary delve into the issue of the murdered Shadowhunters, they discover a mystery that has deeply personal consequences for them — consequences that may strengthen their relationship, or rip it apart forever. Meanwhile, internecine warfare among vampires is tearing the Downworld community apart, and only Simon — the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side — can decide the outcome; too bad he wants nothing to do with Downworld politics. Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.”

Why I Want It: There doesn't have to even be a reason to want this book, but to want it. This continuation of The Mortal Instruments is awesome covered and no doubt as good or better than the other three. I have no doubt that this is one of those books that will have giggling and rolling around on the floor getting the usual strange looks from other Booksamillion patrons.:/ You would think that they would be used to it already...

2011 Blogging Resolutions

I have planned to restart my blog this year and was inspired by all the resolution lists I saw being posted. I figured if I was gonna do it that some guidelines and starting points would be reasonable.

1. Blog Regularly.
I have a habit of blogging and then stopping. I can easily get stressed and then my time management gets sucky and then I forget and squeeze out the things that make me happy.

2. Stop reading reviews of books I haven't read yet.
I once read a review and once I read the book I found myself trying to understand why the other blogger didn't like certain parts and it took away from the time I spent enjoying the book and worried me that it might influence my reviews.

3. Get a new blog design and try to do it myself before ordering one.

I know my reviews are supposed to be more important than my looks, but when I look at a blog and it doesn't catch my eye, I generally exit out of it. I don't know much about web design, but I know enough to at least make my own background. My mom encourages me and says that I should imagine how good I'll feel when it looks wonderful and I've done it myself. Then again, she's most likely being biased.

I hope someone reading my resolutions gets inspired to blog like I did. It truly is one of the best things I've ever done. In a way, it has built my confidence and the rush when you see that people have read your writing or when you get your first follower or comment is unbelievable.
